Now that the deal between the Tampa Bay Rays and the city of St. Petersburg has fallen through, we are presented with a new opportunity — one that invites all of us to reimagine the future of this important space together. What are the possibilities for place-making? How do we, as a community, make the most of this opportunity in a way that honors the past and positions us for future-focused growth? What should this space include? Who should it serve? How do we ensure equity, accessibility and sustainability, not only in its development but in the way it functions as a new anchor in our city’s landscape?

On June 3, the Tampa Bay Times hosted a dynamic community conversation featuring a panel of diverse voices and perspectives. We heard from place-making experts, longtime residents and local leaders and explored what’s next ​for this vital part of St. Petersburg’s future.
